I mentioned in the last video I have been doing family tree related things for a long time. I mentioned how I enjoyed going and looking throught the generations and such. Now, I use a program called "My Heriatage", and this program also has discovery features, that allow you to look at other people's family trees, and other historical things. I have gotten a lot of info on very close descendants, up to the 18th century in certain parts. But even then I have very far relationships, like distant cousins, at least seemingly distant. Looking at these different matches and things, I have a lot of them that apear, hundreds at a time. And there are a lot of different places and people. This also sometimes, rarely, includes photos. It's fun to grow the tree and add people. I have thousands of people. It's also fun to find out new information, where like people were born, died, and sometimes even immigration dates and the such. There are a lot of people in Illinois in my family tree, especially at one particular Catholic Cememtery in a suburb. But this growth of the family tree is upwards... well more sideways in my case.
Now in the video I made, I was talking about more expanding our family trees downwards. In my family tree, there are some families with lots of kids, more towards the up. Now in this case there are unfortunate cases where it is more that a lot of these kids passed when they were young, or even close to birth. But there are lots of large families with many kids.
By the way, when it comes to religous, I could only find one sisters, that I did now about, she was a Franciscan sister of some kind, I believe, but I have not yet found anything of religous men, brothers or priests. Probably have not looked hard enough. Or people have not added the prefix "br" or "fr", so, it also allows you to add things like "ordinations". On that note I tried to document certain dates, like "First Communion" or "Confirmation", at least for days I know, Baptisms and other things too. I also added photos, not a lot, but certain meaningful and important photos, and old photos.
I can't share specifics of my exact family tree, especially the young and living people. I think doing family trees is an enjoyable hobby, and I think it is something every family should do. Not every person, but every family should have someone who is willing to do research and look into it. If you are looking for an easy program to use (that's free!) I would recomend "FamilySearch", brought to you by the Mormons. The Mormons were actually big (still are I believe) into doing family research, and they have good collections. You really don't have to be Mormon to use it. I have been using it for a while, and it's free and easy to use, and you will get plenty of info. Now I use "My Heritage" which is a great program, but unless you are willing to truly dedicate yourself to doing it, it's not really worth it, because if you are truly dedicated to it, you would want to purchase their premium programs to be able to actually grow and do things.
So, there are two parts of a family tree, the real life growing it downwards, and the fun (at least for me) of growing it upwards (... and sideways, with all the cousins).
Blessings,
Matthew
UPDATE: New video up on the Atari Guy last night, like I promised yesterday (right?). The 50th episode special will be up. I will be doing some editing and stuff for that starting very soon! Besides that, there will be new video on the Podcast either tonight or tommorow. I know I said new video every Monday and Thursday (and originally there would be New Atari Guy videos on Friday, and that is why the podcast would have two new videos on the week for the podcast and one on the Atari Guy), but already we have gotten past this on this week and the Monday video was actually on Tuesday. And so, new video today or tommorow.
