Pray for our Seminarians!

We are still in National Vocations Awareness week, and so I want to invite you to pray for our seminarians. Seminarians are priests in training (to out in one way). They go to Seminary, where they learn Theology and Philosophy, and train to serve as priests. These seminarians attend special schools called seminaries. All priests have attended seminary. It is just about a nine year intensive process, surrounded not just in study but also in prayer and discernment, as well as service. In your diocese, or dioceses with a seminary, you may have seminarians work around parishes in their diocese or the diocese or archdiocese of the seminary.

I have gotten to know many seminarians of my diocese and the nearby archdiocese. These seminarians are great people. And so I ask that you might do some research about the seminarians of your own diocese, maybe get to know some of them. But also, pray for them! Pray for our future priests, pray for those discerning, and pray for those in formation. And if you can, consider supporting them financially.

If you yourself are considering the priesthood, then get to know the seminarians. Go to reatreats, if your diocese offers them, often times they have seminarians who staff these. I know I have been to a few of these. Also, get to know your diocese's vocations director.

God Bless,

Matthew Schreiner
